When the Job Gets Difficult, We Engineer the Way Through

Bundle Pulling & Bundle Extraction Solutions

Bundle pulling and extraction work is rarely solved by choosing a machine from a catalogue. Bundle weight, length, tube sheet geometry, site access, lifting conditions and turnaround timing all affect the final solution. We start with the actual job, then match the equipment and configuration around it.

COMMON FIELD CHALLENGES

What Makes a Tube Bundle Job Difficult?

These solutions are organized around actual maintenance conditions—not by product type. The objective is to identify what makes the job difficult and then configure the equipment accordingly.

01 / HEAVY & OVERSIZED
The bundle is heavy, long or close to the normal operating limit.
THE CHALLENGE

Heavy & Oversized Tube Bundle Extraction

Large tube bundles increase more than pulling demand. Equipment stability, support load, working length, lifting arrangement and bundle travel must be considered together as weight and length increase.

HOW WE SOLVE IT

We review bundle weight, tube sheet diameter, bundle length and lifting conditions together, then match the extractor capacity, support trolley arrangement and working length. Front or rear extensions can be added where extra reach is required.

Pulling force matched to actual load
Support trolley capacity review
Standard or extended working length
Lifting and positioning check
02 / NON-STANDARD TUBE SHEET
The tube sheet is small, thin or difficult to grip with the standard setup.
THE CHALLENGE

Difficult Gripping & Non-Standard Tube Sheets

Some smaller bundles or non-standard exchanger structures are difficult to grip securely. In these cases, the issue is often not pulling capacity but whether the front end can hold the tube sheet firmly and maintain stable alignment.

HOW WE SOLVE IT

We check the tube sheet diameter, thickness and available gripping area. Where the standard arrangement is not suitable, an auxiliary fixture can be designed to create a secure connection for extraction and reinstallation.

Tube sheet diameter and thickness review
Auxiliary gripping fixture when required
Stable pulling alignment
Small-bundle operating guidance
03 / RESTRICTED ACCESS
There is not enough room for the crane, extractor or operator.
THE CHALLENGE

Restricted Access & Difficult Site Conditions

In congested refinery areas, surrounding pipework, platforms and structures can limit crane access, machine positioning and the available travel distance in front of or behind the exchanger.

HOW WE SOLVE IT

We review exchanger elevation, surrounding obstructions, lifting points and available working space before confirming the configuration. Front / rear extensions, auxiliary fixtures and remote-control options can then be considered.

Site layout and access review
Front / rear extension options
Wired or wireless remote option
Positioning and lifting coordination
04 / TURNAROUND EFFICIENCY
Multiple exchangers must be completed inside one shutdown window.
THE CHALLENGE

Too Many Exchangers, Too Little Shutdown Time

During a refinery or petrochemical turnaround, one contractor may need to service several exchangers with different bundle sizes in a limited period. The challenge becomes coverage, movement and working sequence—not only capacity.

HOW WE SOLVE IT

We review the exchanger list as a group and select a practical configuration that can cover as many bundle sizes as possible. Equipment movement, operating sequence and spare / consumable preparation can then be planned around the turnaround schedule.

One extractor covering multiple bundle sizes
Turnaround sequence planning
Movement between work locations
Consumable and spare preparation

COMPLETE MAINTENANCE WORKFLOW

Extraction Is Only One Part of the Job

When the project also includes bundle handling, cleaning and inspection, the equipment should be considered as one connected maintenance workflow.

01

Extract

Controlled tube bundle removal from the exchanger shell.

02

Handle

Support, transfer and positioning for the next maintenance stage.

03

Clean & Inspect

Tube cleaning, inspection and required service work.

04

Reinstall

Align and reinstall the bundle under controlled conditions.

HOW WE ENGINEER THE SOLUTION

What We Need Before We Recommend

A few key project details are enough for an initial equipment recommendation.

01 / Exchanger & Bundle Data

Maximum bundle weight, bundle length, tube sheet diameter, tube sheet thickness and exchanger dimensions.

02 / Site & Access Conditions

Working space, elevation, lifting route, surrounding structures, ground conditions and available power.

03 / Maintenance Requirement

Extraction, reinstallation, cleaning scope, shutdown schedule, usage frequency and delivery requirement.
